A Case of Microstomia Subsequent to Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis Surgically Treated by Simple Technique
SUMMARY Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) is a rare but severe adverse dermatitis that is an autoimmune reaction to drugs such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. TEN most severely affects the mucous membranes including the mouth and could develop into microstomia; however, microstomia in relation to TEN has rarely been reported in the literature. We describe an adult female patient who dev...

We present an extreme case of Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis, which corresponds to a severe form of Stevens Johnson Syndrome. This is a potentially fatal immune reaction that affects skin and mucosa, producing blisters and sloughing of the epithelium. Severe sequelae, including blindness, hearing loss, tooth malformation and esophageal destruction are seen in this case.

BACKGROUND Drug hypersensitivity is classically divided into IgE mediated and non-IgE mediated disease. We report a rare case of consequent IgE mediated and non-IgE mediated reactions within the beta lactam class of antibiotics. CASE SUMMARY An 84-year-old man developed toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) due to ceftriaxone, a third generation cephalosporin, involving 72% of the body surface are...
